I began this journal on Livejournal back in 2001. It was the first social network I belonged to, and through it, I made many extremely good friends, some of whom still may even read this.

A little background on me.

I'm a middle aged white dude living in suburbia. I live in a house with my wife and dogs. I went to college to study music in hopes of being an opera singer, but ultimately became a software developer when I realized that I really like eating and being able to pay rent. I work primarily in web development for NOAA, but I do freelance work every now and then, usually when I need a new phone or something. I still sing and do theater every now and then, and will shamelessly use this journal to promote any shows that I'm in.

I'm very passionate about civil and human rights. I reject, absolutely, all forms of racism, discrimination, homophobia, etc. and do all I can to support causes that I believe in.

I'm a massive nerd. I used to be self conscious about that, but I now consider this the time of the geek. I watch way too much TV, read all manner of science fiction books (and am always open to recommendations), go to conventions, cosplay, etc. Mentally, I'm still 12.

I am fiercely loyal to the people I care about and do not suffer disrespect toward them at all.

I'm pretty much a "let it all hang out" kind of person, meaning that although I do often lock my posts, it's not hard to get on my friends list, and I don't really censor myself overmuch on my journal. For much of my life, I've compartmentalized myself, even when I was on LJ. Here, I just am who I am. I'm too old to hide aspects of myself that I think might not be for everyone. I'm not a very private person largely because I don't have anything to hide.

I'm a two time cancer survivor. The second time was extremely serious and nearly killed me, but thankfully, my treatment was successful and I'm currently in remission.

(One thing I'm keeping from my old journal is my race times. I may put these into a post later, but I want to make sure I still have the times recorded somewhere)

My races so far include:

The Penguin Pace 2011 Gun Time: 29:26.07 Chip Time: 29:05.86
The Cherry Blossom 2011: Gun Time: 1:42:09 Chip Time: 1:33:42
The Army 10 Miler 2011: Gun time: 2:03:27 Chip Time: 1:44:44
The Annapolis (Mostly) Half Marathon* 2011: Gun Time: 1:56:21 Chip Time: 1:54:55

*It is strongly suspected that the distance of this race was short of an actual 13.1 miles. My guess is it was closer to 12.65-12.73. Either way it represents a PR for me, I just don't quite know what that PR is.
